Annual OBUUC Auction

WAS HELD SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2011

"To Bid or Not to Bid"

We went back for the second year to the same great location - Fountain Banquet Hall on Hwy. 11 in Sturtevant.

Live Auction, Silent Auction, Sign-ups, Artist/Author Corner, Raffles, Cash 'n' Carry. Fountain Hall again provided a delicious buffet. We enjoyed scrumptious homemade desserts.

We continue to offer sign up events so watch for information to be advertised through church.

Offertory Outreach

Every month we honor our UU Principles by giving half of our collection plate to a non-profit organization. The non-profit is chosen by the Offertory Outreach Committee through an application process. Applications received by October 1 will be reviewed and considered for the upcoming year.

If you know an organization that might want to apply, email the church office at churchoffice@obuuc.org for an application OR see the link in the left side-bar for a printable form.

ALSO, see the link in the left side-bar for this month's recipient.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH- October 2011

Abby Carr

Abby Carr is a true example of how OBUUC can help raise children who become amazing adults! Abby was raised in the church since she was 11 years old. Even when she moved away from Racine as an adult, she still returned to OBUUC for holidays like Christmas, because the day wouldn't be complete without attending our special services. Since returning to Racine in 2008, Abby has been busy dedicating herself to a variety of volunteer efforts at OBUUC. Abby reported she has always been mindful that a church runs largely on volunteer efforts and as such, she wants to do her part. She is currently involved with the Faith Development Committee and the Ministerial Intern Committee. Abby says these particular commitments help her make an impact on the quality of our church community and assist the ministerial interns in being successful here and in their future communities. Abby also volunteers for the children's religious education (RE) program, for Chalice Camp in the Summer and on Sundays as needed during the school year. Abby indicated that her service in RE is rewarding because she is helping other children have the same experience she did growing up within the church... and it's actually a fun time!

Most recently Abby has been devoting her time and effort on the Ordination Committee, which is ensuring this significant event runs smoothly - including welcoming our special guests. This particular endeavor is close to her heart because Abby was raised in the church along side Morgan McLean. Abby stated her devotion to this project is about giving Morgan the reception she deserves and honoring the powerful and positive experience she (and Morgan) had while growing up at OBUUC. Abby recalled that her youth group once said that one of them would end up being a UU Minister after all the meaningful and passionate experiences they had within the church; now Abby is honored and proud to be apart of Morgan choosing to make this passion her life's work.

OBUUC is tremendously grateful to Abby for all her recent hard work and her continuous dedication to making our church thrive. Thank you Abby!
