Middle School Religious Education

OBUUC Middle School Aged Ministry (Middle School RE) follows a nine-month-long calendar meeting in George Bray Hall (church lower level) September through May during the second service 11 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. The group begins in the church sanctuary, then moves to George Bray Hall after the “Message for All Ages.”

Notice to Parents/Guardians: Registration forms must be signed by parent/guardian before a child can participate in UU Teens. This includes bringing friends; any friends attending must also have a registration form signed by a parent/guardian before they can participate. (The Middle School Registration Form can be downloaded and printed.)

Middle School RE: Grades 6 – 8
This younger youth group for sixth, seventh and eighth graders is concurrent with the Sunday morning 11 a.m. service. Together they forge friendships, develop a sense of themselves as Unitarian Universalists, envision contributions to the larger community, and provide a safe and supportive space for one another as they reflect on their personal values and spiritual journeys, and enjoy events, social service projects, and overall good times.

8th Grade Affirmation
Affirmation is a program in which our congregation fosters the transition of eighth graders into the adult congregation. With the support of our minister, teens investigate their own personal spirituality, are encouraged to develop a greater sense of what they believe, and develop and present their own “Credo Statements” – written statements of belief and perspectives developed over the course of their experience as Unitarian Universalists.

Affirmation invites young people to explore their own faith as Unitarian Universalists. In a process that encourages independent thinking, assuming responsibility, exploring values and identity, students are asked to clarify their understanding of faith, Unitarian Universalism and their relationship to Olympia Brown Unitarian Universalist Church. Affirmation consists of several elements: World Religion Lessons, Understanding UUism, Community Service, Church Service, A Statement of Faith.
