We are glad you are here! Our Greeters are happy to answer any questions and help make your visit comfortable and enjoyable. Be sure to visit with us during the social hour after every service. There is information available on the brochure rack and you can speak with our Minister, Tony Larsen, or our Member Coordinator, Kelly Horbinski, about the membership process.

Things you might want to know

Dress: Our church is always eclectic and informal. Visitors will feel comfortable in business casual to contemporary social attire.

Accessibility: There is an elevator located on the southeast corner of the building. Handicap parking spaces are reserved along that side of the building on 7th Street. Assisted listening devices are available just inside the sanctuary. Restrooms are located in the lower level of the church. Parking is available on Sundays in the Porter's lot adjacent to our building to the north. Ample street parking is also available.

Sunday School: Pre-K to 5th grade, and nursery care are available at all services in the lower level of the church, commonly referred to as George Bray Hall.

Our Junior High students (UU Teens) meet at the Church Annex, 419 - 6th Street, lower level during the 11 a.m. service throughout the school year.

Our Senior High students (Youth Group) meet at the Annex lower level on Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. throughout the school year.

Becoming a Member

Why should I join this congregation? By becoming a member you offer to share your gifts, your talents, and your time as well as your own personal needs and limitations. You and other members of the Olympia Brown Unitarian Universalist Church (OBUUC) community will nurture and support each other's religious growth and work together to create an environment that is warm, caring and supportive. You will have a place where you can broaden your vision, share your joys and concerns, and work together with others in a quest that is spiritual, practical, and personal, while making a difference in the wider community. Most of these things, of course, you can do whether you are an official member of our congregation or not. However, being a member means that you are making a statement about who you are and what you believe. "I am a member of Olympia Brown UU Church" is, after all, a different statement from "I attend Olympia Brown UU Church." It also connects you to a quarter of a million other Unitarian Universalists in the U.S. from over 1,000 congregations.

When should I join this congregation? You should join our church whenever you feel it is time--that is, after you have attended for long enough to feel that you know what our church stands for and that you want to be a part of it. Some people join after attending a few months, others take years to make that decision. We recommend that you attend a 3-session course called "The New UU," which helps you explore Unitarian Universalist theology and practice, the history of Unitarian Universalism and our local congregation, and how we govern ourselves.
