Sunday, September 5, 10 a.m. ONLY "Blending of the Waters" The children will be with us as our Worship Associates lead us in our annual Water Communion ceremony. Members and friends bring water (from the places you've traveled to during the summer or simply tap water from home that represents change in your life) and pour it into a common container as you share its significance to you. We will also have a Beyond-These-Four-Walls presentation on Friends of the Library (Racine Public Library), our Offertory Outreach recipient for September.
Saturday, September 11, 7:30 p.m. Sanctuary Second Saturday "Live in Concert" Mark Paffrath is the featured artist for this evening. NEW THIS YEAR! There is a charge at the door of $10 for adults, $5 for students. Refreshments will be offered before the show and at intermission for a cost of only 50 cents. All profits go to Olympia Brown Chalice Lighters.
Sunday, September 12, 9 and 11 a.m. 2-SERVICE SCHEDULE RESUMES "Sermon by Jennifer Thomson" On this, our first two-service Sunday after the summer hiatus, the children will be with us for the first part of the srvice (and for the installation our our new Sunday School teachers) and then join their teachers for classes downstairs. Our sermon will be from our student minister, Jennifer Thomson, who will be with us half-time (but for two years instead of one). (Tony Larsen will also be in attendance at this service, in his intern supervisory role.)
Sunday, September 19, 9 and 11 a.m. "A Harvest of Gratitude" The Autumnal Equinox has many names but remains a time to celebrate our gifts and giving. Pause with us to survey our harvest, and to toast that which fills our cups! This will be an earth-centered service celebrating the beginning of Fall, led by Jennifer Todd, our church's CUUPS chapter leader, and Jennifer Thomson, our student minister. Our Olympia Brown Choir will open their season of singing at this service!
Sunday, September 26, 9 and 11 a.m. "Inter-Dependent Stories, Interactive Lives" Our guest speaker this Sunday will be the Rev. Matthew Somlai, Abbot at the Original Root Zen Center. He will be speaking from a Buddhist perspective. Our Worship Associate, Pamela Smiley, will conduct the service.
Sunday, October 3, 9 and 11 a.m. "World Communion Sunday" Our Olympia Brown Choir will help us celebrate World Communion Sunday, with bread, wine (non-alcoholic), and justice; and our student minister, Jennifer Thomson, will give the sermon. (Tony Larsen will also be in attendance at this service, in his intern supervisory role.)
Saturday, November 6, Fountain Hall OBUUC Annual Auction Olympia Brown UU Church will have their annual major fundraising event at a new location, Fountain Hall in Sturtevant. Stay tuned for more information.

Our News

Second Saturday - "Live in Concert" and "Coffeehouse" Starting in the Fall season of 2010 there will two kinds of entertainment.
"Coffeehouse" remains the same with individual acts and no charge at the door, just passing the hat between acts at the shows in October, November, February, April and June.
"Live in Concert" will feature one artist or group with a charge at the door of $10 for adults and $5 for students.

The 2010-'11 season will feature singer/songwriter Mark Paffrath on Sept. 11; popular local Irish singer Jeff Ward on December 11; Bluegrass favorites Pickin' Up Speed on January 8; and Irish band Garlic Mustard Pickers on May 14.

Refreshments will be for sale before the show and at intermission for only 50 cents.

All Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and all profits will go to the OBUUC Chalice Lighters Fund.

OBUUC Looking for Logo We have no established logo to use as a recognizable representation of our church ion our print and online material.

We are seeking ideas and designs using specific criteria that has been decided by our Communications Committee. Informational material and the form to submit your ideas are available at church and in the office, as well as online here in the left column.

Start thinking, designing, and using your imaginations. The chosen design will represent our church for years to come. The deadline for submission is December 1, 2010. The creator of the selected design will receive recognition and a gift certificate to be used at downtown Racine merchants. Contact the church office at 262-634-0659 with any quesions.

Why Retreat When You Can Advance? The Fall Advance is set for the weekend of October 9th and 10th at Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center near Wisconsin Dells, a naturally resplendent setting. Dormitory living with indoor plumbing is part of the packae! Traditional outdoorsy activities will ensue under the guidance of university interns. Enriching activities are planned indoors if one needs a break from the river and trail. All ages, family status, genders, and skill levels welcome.
If you want to travel to the Dells on Friday night, we will have an adult reception near the kid's swimming area of a hotel with a reasonable rate for our group.
