Sunday, February 19, 2012 9 and 11 a.m. Ash Sunday: "Eleven By Fifteen"-request sermon- Ash Wednesday (February 22nd) marks the traditional beginning of Lent. Today, on "Ash Sunday," so to speak, all who wish to, may receive a combination of ash, earth, and sand to represent the "star dust" from which we came and to which we return. Tony's sermon has to do with prison reform - an issue adopted by RIC (=Racine Interfaith Coalition, of which our congregation is a member) and its sister organizations in Wisconsin. "Eleven by Fifteen" has nothing to do with the dimensions of a jail cell, but a lot to do with race, ethics, the future, government spending, and Minnesota vs. Wisconsin. Sound interesting?
Sunday, February 26, 2012 9 and 11 a.m. "Do Think Tanks Think? (And Who Are They?)" -request sermon- There are a number of organizations, often referred to as "think tanks," which offer analysis of social, fiscal, and governmental issues, generally with an ideaological perspective of some kind (e.g., liberal, conservative, libertarian, etc.). How much thinking actually goes on in these organizations, who funds them, and what impact do they have on society? About his sermon, which was requested by a member of the congregation, Tony says: "Trust me - there's a spiritual issue embedded in this discussion."
Sunday, March 4, 2012 9 and 11 a.m. "How Big Is The Sky?" Our guest minister this Sunday will be the Rev. Sean Parker Dennison, whose sermon is about vision and risk - the title being based on an old story of a frog who lives at the bottom of a well and sees only a small portion of the sky. Rev. Dennison has served UU congregations in Stockton, California; Salt Lake City, Utah; and, most recently, as interim minister (for two years) in San Luis Obispo, California. He says he is glad to be able to travel whenever he can to explore the beautiful variety of UU congregatoins all over this country and beyond. We are glad to have him in our pulpit this Sunday. Our Beyond-These-Four-Walls presentation will be on the Urban League of Racine and Kenosha, which is our offertory-outreach recipient for March.
